Duty Free in New Zealand

You can only make duty free purchases if you are travelling internationally. Therefore, you must present valid evidence of this, such as your passport and travel ticket, when purchasing duty free items in Airport.

You will have to pay GST and duty (where applicable) if your duty-free items or other goods purchased overseas cost more than NZ$700 in total.

This does not apply to tobacco and alcohol, which have different limits. If you're travelling with other people, you can't combine your $700 concessions.

The New Zealand duty free allowances per adult are:

• No more than 3 bottles of spirits (up to a maximum of 1.125 millilitre each)
• 4.5 litre of wine, port, sherry, champagne (6 bottles) or beer (12 cans)
• Up to NZ$700 of other goods purchased duty free or overseas
• 50 cigarettes, or 50g of tabacco.

Children (below 17 years of age) can only claim the concession if the items are for them and are items a child would own and use.

Typically, you will find duty free stores where there is a lot on international traffic.

This Duty Free directory are available to help you find your duty free shopping through the New Zealand Airports easily and conveniently.
